ST PETERS, Vatican City, Aug 1, 2060 (PS) - As information on the Technosphere plan for Reunification, as well as an appeal for self-sacrifice in order to support the plan spread this week, discussion of the plan stopped the Ecumenical Conference at the Vatican dead.
"This is not something that we can ignore," said Cardinal Walter Wellborne of Bombay (Ind. Emp.). "It is widely known that the Technosphere has the capability and capacity to actually destroy vortice-stabilized bodies... what they refer to as Threads. They claim that they are also able to save Threads. We cannot merely dismiss this as an issue of war, or of sciences. This is vital to the conscience of every Catholic."
"The situation is chaotic partially because the Technosphere uses the term soul to describe the animal energy which has been shown to uphold much of the stabilized realms," said Cardinal Dr. Henri Etchegaray of Marseilles (Fr. Emp.). "Most physicians believe that they are really describing a sort of combination of spiritus and magnetism, not the immortal soul which is translated as animus in the Vulgate. But the confusion is causing dire consternation, since all of the original readings in Latin are translated as ‘animus’ based on the standard English usage."
There are generally three camps of opinion on the Technosphere plan which calls for millions of persons to be sacrificed voluntarily or otherwise, receiving a skin implant which will result in either death or an irrecoverable vegetative state.
One camp has rejected the entire idea and stated that Gods Divine Provenance will not allow the universe to be saved by a sanguinary act. The violation of the basic commandments without just cause cannot ethically be made the underpinning of the Creation.
The already well organized Eschatologists, led by the Patriarch of Jerusalem (King. Jeru.), have rejected the plan outright. They identify the “tattoo” which has been proposed as the agent of the act as the “mark of the beast” and increasingly reference the Revelations of John to establish that the Earth is currently in a state where a third of a part of all the land and water have been destroyed and undergoing a tribulation prior to the Second Coming. They see the role of the Church as preserving the faithful until the coming of Christ.
The “Rationalists” nominally led by Dr. Etchegaray and The Bishop of Albany (ENY), have put forward a need to treat the plan as a purely scientific phenomenon. “We still must consider issues of profound importance. A plan for salvation that involves suicide is not ethical. Sacrifice in war is one thing, but we must consider very closely if the voluntary surrender of life in these circumstances is something which can be ethically condoned.”
With the Conference grinding to a halt, His Holiness ordered the Papal Nuncio to form a Commission to investigate the issue in detail and prepare a paper to be read before the Conference no later than the Second Week in September. “Time is of the Essence” said Dr. Etchegaray. The Commission will attempt to visit the Technosphere and Penn State, asking questions and gaining insight into the technical methods and issues. It is likely that the Pope will remove the issue from the Council by issuing an Encyclical once the Commission has reported. The Commission is headed by Dr. Etchegaray, but will include several prominent Cardinals who have emerged as leaders during the current Ecumenical Conference.
