STATE COLLEGE, November 4 – The Nezavisna Država Hrvatska (Independent State of Croatia) announced today that it was suspending diplomatic relations with the Free State of Danzig, and instead aggressively pursuing improved relations with the Democratic Republic of Georgia, a Thread that sits "between" Danzig and the NDH and possibly has access to other Threads via the Black Sea.
Poglavnik Tvrtko Maček, via a recorded message brought by Direct Gate courier to Penn State, said that this was part of a plan for the NDH to more actively engage diplomatically with other Threads. Maček is the supreme leader of the NDH, Poglavnik being a title not unlike "Furher."
Up to this point, the Democratic Republic of Georgia was mostly only a rumor in diplomatic circles, mostly connected to the rumor that another Thread was allied with the Free State of Danzig along with the NDH. The NDH, as well, was also only known via the Free State of Danzig.
"Danzig previously used the extensive NDH military as a sort of catspaw," said Penn State political analyst Dr. Charlene Jones of the Political Science Department. "The invasion of Oregon, the invasion of Camp Century, the invasion of Sedona, the attack on the Empire of New York via Boston… Perhaps the NDH is tired of losing."
"There are a lot of rumors surrounding this rift," said another Penn State political analyst, Dr. John Lee. "Some speak of the previous NDH ambassador to Danzig leaving during the JET deployment to Danzig under suspicion of murder, and trying to save face with a pre-emptive diplomatic strike. Others speak of extreme disrespect shown the NDH and their people by the Danzig government and the Danzig people, and evidence of the same circulating in the NDH. My contacts in the Danzig Underground say these aren't mutually exclusive."
The Nezavisna Država Hrvatska (Independent State of Croatia) is also known as "Fascist Croatia", having broke from the Penn State accepted timeline in 1942 and being still under the control of the Croatian fascist party, the Ustaše. The Thread is a 6 on the Penn State Tech Level Scale, and is unusual in that it has a Kellner Rating of zero, which contrasts starkly with the high Kellner Rating of the Free State of Danzig.
